How Tutoring for Success Works
I consider myself a Family Coach, assisting the child and their parents and caretakers to understand their 'part' in the child's training.  My weekly instruction with the student is based on their academic needs verified through assessments and communication with the child's first and best teacher: the parent, and also the regular classroom teacher. *There is very strong evidence (*http://thetalentcode.com/) that routine practice which is both guided and focused, is the BEST way to train for any endeavor!!  The human brain actually can cause physical changes when practice is consistent, repetitive and sequential; it can even make future learning easier and more efficient.  Therefore, my tutoring service includes a Home Component that I feel is essential to the success of what we cover in our 60 minute tutoring sessions.  Students who practice at home 15-30 minutes daily, using fun and interesting materials, websites and even games, show the best and most sustained progress.

All Tutoring Agreements Include
*Pre and Post assessments
*Brief Lesson Summaries and Progress Reports
*Regular communication with Parents/Guardians
*Participation in Parent-Teacher Conferences / IEP Meetings
        (if requested)

Tutoring for Success is primarily an in-home service for grades K-5.

Teaching Approaches
Tutoring for Grades K- 3:
   - Lesson plans incorporate essential components of literacy:
[phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension]
    - Focus is on areas needing the most support,  incorporating the child's individual
learning style and using other motivational techniques
-Home Component is organized for daily 'guided and focused' practice:
Computer programs, educational websites, learning techniques and
activities are shared with the family so that support for the student can
continue at home and be ongoing and routine.

Tutoring for Grades 4-5:
    - Focus for tutoring is determined by the parents, student and the classroom
             teacher... and by assessment outcomes.
     - Examples would include but not be limited to: spelling, multi-syllabic
words, word meanings (prefixes, suffixes, root words, synonyms, etc.)
report writing, text book reading, study skills, test-taking strategies,
reading comprehension of different genre, and organizational skills.
      - Assignments are given for the student to work on between tutoring sessions
      - Home Component:  same approach as K-3 / different content
